Overview: The House is an original
solitaire designed by Absolute Patience's Team.
- Played with
104 cards (2 regular decks)
- Medium
complexity and easy to win (2 games out
of 3)
- The goal is
to move all cards to the 8 foundations

Rules:
- Stock
(bottom left) - Starts with 77 face-down
cards. No card can be moved to the stock.
The top card is automatically moved to
the waste when the waste is empty.
- Waste
(right of stock) - Starts with 1 face-up
card. No card can be moved to the waste,
except via an automatic move from the
stock. The single exposed card of the
waste can be played.
- Discards
(3 piles above stock and waste) - Each
discard starts empty. Any card can be
moved to any discard, except that cards
in discards cannot be moved to another
discard. The exposed card of each discard
can be played.
- Foundations
(8 right piles) - Each foundation starts
empty. Built in ascending family sequence
(for example a 9 of diamond can only be
played on a 8 of diamond) from Ace to
King (the first card must be an Ace, the
last will be a King), until each pile
contains 13 cards. The exposed card of
each foundation (except Aces) can be
played.
- Reserve
(center pile) - Starts with 13 face-down
cards. No card can be moved to the
reserve. The top card is automatically
moved to any empty roof.
- Walls
(8 piles below the Roofs) - Each wall
starts with 1 face-up card. Built in
descending family sequence (for example a
9 of diamond can only be played on a 10
of diamond). The exposed card of each
wall can be played. An empty wall will be
automatically filled by the exposed card
of the waste if possible or by any card
you want.
- Roofs
(5 piles above the Walls) - Each roof
starts with 1 face-up card. No card can
be moved to the roofs, except via an
automatic move from the reserve. The
exposed card of each roof can be played.
An empty roof will be automatically
filled by the top card of the reserve
only.
Options:
- Number
of Discard Piles - By
default, The House is played with 3
Discards. For a more challenging game
only 2 Discards may be setup.
- Number
of cards in Reserve - By
default, The House is played with 13
face-down cards in the Reserve. For a
more challenging game the Reserve may
start with 17 face-down cards.
Tips
& Strategy:
- Reveal
cards of the Reserve
- The Reserve contains cards you
don't know. You must reveal them as soon
as possible by playing cards of the
Roofs; they will then receive cards from
the Reserve.
- Organize
cards in the Discards -
Discards can receive any card (except
cards from another Discard). In fact
Discards will receive cards from the
Waste because you won't be able to play
them anywhere else. By selecting the
appropriate Discard for the next card to
discard, you will be able to later
retrieve cards in a favorable way; for
example you could play cards ranking from
2 to 5 to the first Discard, cards
ranking from 6 to 9 to the second
Discard, and remaining cards in the third
Discard. Thereafter, you know that all
low rank cards are stacked in the first
Discard, and these cards are probably the
ones you will need very soon.
- Plan
your moves within the Walls
- The Walls, when empty, will
automatically receive the Waste's single
exposed card. When you empty a Wall, make
sure that the Waste's card will be of
interest or you might find yourself
blocked with those "hard to
play" Kings. Interesting cards might
be ones that will be played soon (a low
rank card) elsewhere, or that will enable
the play of a Roof's card for example.
- Final
stage of the game - When
the Stock comes near from the end, make
sure you will be able to free 1 Wall or
2. This way, with the Waste empty, you
will be able to play any card to these
empty Walls, in particular cards from the
Discards. This will most likely ensure a
positive result.
