Overview: Napoleon at Friedland is
an original solitaire designed by Absolute
Patience's Team.
- Played with
104 cards (2 regular decks)
- Medium
complexity and requires a bit of luck (1
game out of 3)
- The goal is
to move all cards to the 8 foundations

Rules:
- Stock
(bottom left) - Starts with 50 face-down
cards. No card can be moved to the stock.
By clicking the stock you send its top
card to the waste. When the stock is
empty you can click it to send back all
cards from the waste to the stock; you
can do this 3 times during play.
- Waste
(right of stock) - Starts with 1 face-up
card. No card can be moved to the waste,
except the stock's top card. The exposed
card of the waste can be played.
- Foundations
(8 top piles) - Each foundation starts
empty. Built in ascending family sequence
(for example a 9 of diamond can only be
played on a 8 of diamond) from Ace to
King (the first card must be an Ace, the
last will be a King), until each pile
contains 13 cards. The exposed card of
each foundation (except Aces) can be
played.
- Reserve
(center pile - the "braid") -
Starts with 13 face-up cards. No card can
be moved to the reserve. Free cards can
be played (a card is free if it is not
blocked by any card on top of it).
- Tableau
(8 piles below foundations) - Each pile
of the tableau starts with 5 face-up
cards. Built in descending family
sequence (for example a 9 of diamond can
only be played on a 10 of diamond). The
exposed card of each pile of the tableau
can be played; also a pack of exposed
cards in descending family sequence (for
example 10 - 9 - 8 of diamond) can be
played to another pile of the tableau.
Empty piles may be filled by a King or a
pack of cards in descending family
sequence and led by a King (see options).
Options:
- Stock
- By default, the stock discards
one card at a time to the waste, and may
be rebuilt 3 times. As an option you make
the stock discards three cards at a time,
and rebuild it any number of times.
- Empty
tableau - By default, empty
piles of the tableau can be filled by a
King or a pack of cards in descending
family sequence and led by a King. The
variant allows to fill empty piles of the
tableau with any card of a pack of cards
in descending family sequence led by any
card (easier).
Tips
& Strategy:
- Play
cards of the Reserve
- The Reserve contains blocked
cards you will need sooner or later. You
must free them as soon as possible. Of
course you should first study cards in
the reserve to decide if they are
important or not.
- Empty
tableau piles - Try to free
some piles of the tableau. This way you
will be able to play your kings. This is
especially important if the reserve is
blocked by a King.
- Beware
of deadlocks - In
this game, cards may be definitively
blocked if two needed cards blocks each
other. Try to locate these possible
deadlocks and play accordingly.
- Final
stage of the game -
The Wise Man is quiet performant in this
game (if you play with option that only
allows Kings in empty tableau piles). Ask
the Wise Man to help you finish the
games.
