Overview: Arctica is an original
solitaire designed by Absolute Patience's Team.
- Played with
52 cards (1 regular deck)
- Medium
complexity and difficult to win (1 game
out of 6)
- The goal is
to move all cards to the 4 foundations

Rules:
- Foundations
(4 top piles, left and right) - Each
foundation starts empty. Built in
ascending family sequence (for example a
9 of diamond can only be played on a 8 of
diamond) from Ace to King (the first card
must an Ace, the last will be a King),
until each pile contains 13 cards. The
exposed card of each foundation (except
Aces) can be played.
- Tableau
(6 piles below foundations) - Each pile
of the tableau starts with 4 face-down
cards and 3 face-up cards. Built in any
descending sequence (for example any 9 of
any family can be played on any 10 of any
family). The exposed card of each pile of
the tableau can be played; also any pack
of exposed cards in any sequence (no need
to be a suit) can be played to another
pile of the tableau. Empty piles may be
filled by a King or a pack of cards in
any sequence and led by a King (see
options).
- Reserve
(center pile - the "braid") -
Starts with 10 face-up cards. No card can
be moved to the reserve. Free cards can
be played (a card is free if it is not
blocked by any card above it).
Options:
- Empty
tableau -
By default, empty piles of the tableau
can be filled by a King or a pack of
cards in any sequence and led by a King.
The variant allows to fill empty piles of
the tableau with any card of a pack of
cards in any sequence led by any card
(easier).
Tips
& Strategy:
- Play
cards of the Reserve - The
Reserve contains blocked cards you will
need sooner or later. You must free them
as soon as possible. Of course you should
first study cards in the reserve to
decide if they are important or not.
- Empty
tableau piles - Try to free one
or more piles within the tableau. This
way you will be able to play your kings.
This is especially important if the
reserve is blocked by a King...
